What do you call the material underneath camera neck straps to prevents slippage?

I want to know, with nylon camera straps (like the ones that come free when you buy a new Canon or Nikon DSLR)), what do you call that material that’s stitched in the middle of the nylon webbing? It’s the one that prevents the strap from slipping.

A friend said it’s nylon but I don’t think it is. Help?

I have noticed/remember a few option regarding this. Some straps that are just the nylon, some that have a thin rubber like coating, just not certain if it is rubber and last a then cloth like material that has a rugged velvet like finish that is slip resistant.

I’m guessing Kevlar. Maybe nylon or Velcor. (Velcro)?
My daughter says if it’s the material on my coat it’s Velcro.

It’s neoprene. The same material that is used in making wetsuits. It also "absorbs" some of the weight of the camera by creating a cushion effect when it is hanging around your neck.

I’m not sure what the manufacturers use, very likely they all use something of their own.

If you would like something for your own strap here’s a small tip.

Go to your local car-care shop and buy a chamois leather. Cut a strip twice the width of your strap, fold in half to double the thickness, and sew into place. Chamois is what used to be used for the job and is hard to beat.

why don’t you take a look at this pap strap then you wouldn’t have to worry about adding to your existing strap. It will not slip and looks comfortable.
